Oxford Sports Teams Performing Well This Spring

The Wolverines are representing the school well on the field, the track and the volleyball court.

The Oxford High School volleyball team remains undefeated after beating Amity Regional in straight sets Wednesday.

The team was led by Pat Cragan , 37 assists and 10 digs; Rob Costigan, 16 kills and Ed Carver, nine digs.

Oxford also defeated Joel Barlow in straight sets: 25-19, 25-20 and 25-8.

Costigan had 10 kills, Eric Jensen had eight kills, Carver had eight digs and Cragan had 27 assists.

And Oxford lost its its first two sets of the season to Cheshire at home last week but still came away with the win 3-2.

The matches were Oxford 25, Cheshire 16; 23-25, 18-25, 25-17 and 15-5.

Costigan had 23 kills, Jason Mraz had five blocks, Cragan had 43 assists and Carver had 23 digs.

Oxford Girls' Track Continues Impressive Season

Oxford's Savada Robinson set three school records in the 100 Hurdles, 300 hurdles and 200 meters. She won the 200 and 100 hurdles events. She ran 16.6 in the 100H, 47.7 in the 300 Hurdles and 26.4 in the 200.

Oxford's Taylor Drayton won the shot put with at thow of 35-8. The 4x100M relay team of Jasmyn DiPetro, Savada Robinson, Becky Gumbrewicz and Hannah VanBuiten finished second with a time of 52.9 Anne Dennen placed third in the high jump at 4-feet, 8-inches. Audrey Pratt came in fourth in the shot put with a thow of 29-3 and long lump with a jump of 14-0.5 and fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 31-5.5

Hannah VanBuiten place fourth in the 400 meters in a time of 65.1. The team's next meet is Saturday at the Spartan Invitational at Shepaug Valley High School.

Boys Track Results

Oxford's top performance at the Irv Black Invitational came from Cameron Swift. Swift won the Boys 1600m Run in 4:18.00 wrestling the lead in the final 50-meters from runner-up Matthew Chisholm of Farmington in 4:18.20 and third place finisher Ryan Pearl of Hamden in 4:18.50.

Softball

The Oxford softball team improved to 13-2 on the season with a 13-0 win over Weston this week.

Sophomore Ashley Guillette pitched a two-hitter and struck out 17. She helped herself at the plate with four hits.

Meg Sastrum, Sam Orner and Keara Main each had two hits, while Dallas Passerine had a double and two RBI.

Baseball

The Oxford baseball team defeated Immaculate 14-3 Monday to break a three-game losing streak.

Kyle Chudoba (4-0) allowed one hit and struck out four in four innings, while Bryan Petersen, Steve Mahoney and Kevin Loschiavo had three hits apiece. Petersen had two RBIs, while James Michaud had four RBI.

Unified Sports

OHS Unified Sports took home gold Thursday at its first volleyball tournament at Branford High. The team went 2-0, defeating Hillhouse A and Branford White.
