Oxford Village $10,000 Strong.

Local community effort to be proud of.

Last Memorial Day 2013 the village of Oxford--that is the local community--came together to honor our veterans and in doing so raised $10,000.  The Oxford 5k Freedom Run/2k Walk and children's Rock Hopper Fun Run was the event.  The Valley Community Foundation was the major sponsor with Oxford Paint and Hardware running a not too distant second.  Naugatuck Valley Saving and Loan teamed with the Oxford Peachwave to make sure that each child following the local librarian dressed in full penguin garb recieved a t-shirt just like the adults.  Oxford's Town Clerk Margaret West donated the race-logo dog tags which each child "won" for participating in the run.  The Oxford American Legion veteran's were there dressed in full uniform to place the dog tags on all the children. The Oxford Lions scooped Rich's Farm ice cream for the Penguin's entourage (and some adults who snuk a cone before their race.)  Perrenial sponsors' names shown on the back of the adult t-shirts: Oxford Liquor Shoppe, Oxford Pharmacy, Oxford Oil, Earthworks,121 Restaurant,Miller-Ward Funeral Home, Universal Precast, New England Septic, GIordano's, Rose's Restaurant, Nardelli's, Southbury School of Performing Arts, Select Real Estate and Attorneys Matt Reale and Steven M Reilly. The race/walk started with the presentation of colors by the Oxford American Legion and the National Anthem sung by Ms. Pelletier.  As the runners endured Route 67 and discovered it's down hill to the halfway point but up hill all the way back, Attorney and First Selctman George Temple provided Poland Spring without asking for a vote.  The entire event was prepared for and overseen by Oxford Park and Rec, the Oxford Freedom Run Committee and Oxford's own:  State Police,  Volunteer Fire Department,  Ambulance and Public Works. The race's slogan is Run Walk and Remember Together. We did, and together we gave $5,000 to the American Legion $4,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project and $1,000 to the American Warrior Program.

On Monday May 26th, 2014 the Oxford Village will again come together for the 6th Annual Oxford Freedom Run/Walk and Rock Hopper Fun Run.

Please join us to Run, Walk and Remember!
