Oxford Warns Of Scam

Two project applicants received fraudulent payment demands, according to a town alert.

OXFORD, CT — Fake emails posing as the Town of Oxford have targeted two people with proposed projects, asking them to wire money to complete the permitting process, town officials warned.

The town issued a fraud alert Oct. 26 identifying the messages as fraudulent.

“The Town of Oxford will never ask for funds to be sent via wire transfer or email,” the alert states.

Anyone receiving a payment demand should avoid replying, clicking links or sending money, the town said. Instead, applicants should access the town’s permitting portal directly or contact the appropriate department.

The alert lists these contacts:

  • Building Department: 203-828-6500.
  • Planning and Zoning Department: 203-828-6503.
  • Inland Wetlands Department: 203-828-6507.

The notice does not say whether either recipient sent money.
