Oxford-Seymour Football Teams to Play for First Time Tonight
Both Oxford and Seymour will be in the Naugatuck Valley League next year, so tonight's game is the first in what could become a longstanding rivalry.

For generations, Oxford teens seeking a traditional public school educationΒ attended Masuk in Monroe or Woodbury'sΒ Nonnewaug regionalΒ agri-science program. Most, however, went to neighboring Seymour High School.
That changed in 2007, when the town of Oxford, then the fastest-growing community in Connecticut, openedΒ the doors of itsΒ own high school at 61 Quaker Farms Road. Now, some 900 or so localΒ teensΒ call themselves Oxford Wolverines, rather than Seymour Wildcats.Β
In six short years, Oxford'sΒ athletic program has been wildly successful. Last spring, the Wolverines had one of the bestΒ athletic seasons in Connecticut history, with three teams (baseball, softball and boys' volleyball) winning state titles and a couple of individual track stars taking home top state honors.
Tonight marks another momentous occasion in Oxford Wolverine sportsΒ history. The football programΒ willΒ host the same Seymour WildcatsΒ team that many of their brothers and fathers played for. And to mark the occasion,Β the school will hand out state championship rings to the three teams that won state titles in June.Β
Tonight's game starts at 7 p.m. at Oxford High School. It isΒ the WTNH News 8 SportzEdge Game of the Week.Β
