Peddlers Receive Permit In Oxford

A company has been approved to be able to go door-to-door looking to sell items in town.

OXFORD, CT — If you see someone from Custom Built, Inc. going door-to-door in Oxford looking to sell you windows and doors over the next month it's ok as they have received a legal permit from the town. The Board of Selectmen approved Custom Built, Inc., of Milford's peddler's permit from Aug. 15 through Sept. 15.

The company sells windows and doors and they will be required to have ID badges. The length of the contract is for one month. Officials noted that local residents have expressed concern about peddlers going door-to-door.

First Selectman George Temple said that the town cannot legally stop peddlers as there is no ordinance to prevent such activity. The only legal recourse is to have controls in place that must be adhered to by the peddlers.
