Plans To Repair Flood-Damaged Oxford Trails To Be Unveiled

OXFORD, CT — State officials will present plans Tuesday night to repair two flood-damaged Larkin State Bridle Trail crossings in Oxford.

The crossings near Pope Road and Christian Street were damaged during the August 2024 flood. The project also includes two crossings in Southbury, near Jeremy Swamp Road and Curt Smith Road.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and SLR Consulting will discuss the proposed repairs during a public information session at Southbury Town Hall.

The presentation will examine existing conditions at each location and explain how the crossings could be rebuilt and stabilized. Officials will also discuss ways to make the trail more resistant to damage during future storms.

Engineering and environmental concerns, potential recreational use, permitting and possible construction impacts are also on the agenda.

Officials are expected to provide a project schedule and anticipated timeline. The announcement does not list a construction cost or starting date.

A public question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

The meeting will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 205 of Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main St. South. Residents may also attend virtually using the link included in the meeting announcement.
