Police: Drunken Driver Fell Asleep at Stop Sign

Man was arrested on Punkup Road Sunday night.

Police arrested an Oxford man on a charge of driving under the influence after he fell asleep behind the wheel at a stop sign here early Sunday morning, according to a police news release.

State police said Matthew Adams, 22, of 226 Maple Tree Hill Road, was arrested after an officer found him in a car stopped partially at the intersection of Punkup Road and Route 188 at 1:52 a.m. Sunday, the release states.

Adams was asleep and the car was running, according to the release. He was charged with driving under the influence and failure to carry a valid driver's license. He was released on a $500 bond.
