Police: Local Men Charged with Robbing Convenience Store in Southford

Arrestee also in possession of heroin when apprehended, police say.

Two men who recently robbed a convenience store near the Oxford border have been arrested, police said.

Police say Scott Daly, 28, of Southbury, and Matthew Doris, 30, of Bethel, grabbed a jar containing money at the Kiran Mart next to Dunkin' Donuts in plaza in the Southford section of Southbury just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 24.

Store employees told police that a man ran out of the store at 1450 Southford Road with the jar in hand and got in a blue Honda that quickly took off. Later that night, police pulled the Honda over on Interstate 84 west.

Police said they recovered the stolen money and discovered that Doris, the frontseat passenger, had heroin and drug paraphernalia in his possession. Daly, the driver, was operating with a suspend license, police said.

Daly, of 15 Bridal Path Road in Southbury, was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy/intent toward commission of a crime.

Doris, of 23 Pell Mell Drive in Bethel, was charged with possession of narcotics, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy/intent toward commission of a crime and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were were released on $10,000 non-surety bonds and are scheduled to be arraigned Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday.
