Police: Woman Using GPS Contributed to Four-Car Crash in Oxford

Woodbury woman is issued an infraction after the pile up.

A woman using her global positioning system, or GPS, unit while driving may have contributed to a on Route 67 on Wednesday, police said.

The accident, which shut down a section of Route 67 for more than an hour, happened at 5:34 p.m. about one-tenth of a mile north of Route 67’s intersection with Chestnut Tree Hill Road near the , police said.

Police said a woman jammed on her brakes, which led to a chain reaction of cars hitting the bumpers of the cars in front of them. Nobody was seriously injured, police said.

Stephanie Miles, 30, of 26 Ridgewood Road, Woodbury, was issued infractions for operating a motor vehicle while using an electronic mobile device, distracted driving and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Police also believe a man who was wanted for possibly stealing a motor vehicle and had led police on a short chase from Seymour to Oxford around the same time may also have contributed to the accident with his erratic driving; police are still investigating that angle. Seymour police are also still investigating the motor vehicle theft because the man they tried to pull over got away.
