Rates Won't Increase if Merger Ok'd Involving Heritage Village Water Co.: Report

The Heritage Village Water Co. serves residents in Southbury, Middlebury and Oxford.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Eric W. Thornburg, president and CEO of Connecticut Water, told concerned Heritage Village residents that the proposed $20.9 million merger involving his company acquiring Heritage Village Water Co. will have "no effect on your rates," the Republican-American reports.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority may vote on the merger on Dec. 3, though the town of Southbury still has right of first refusal, the Rep-Am reports. The Heritage Village Water Co. serves residents in Southbury, Middlebury and Oxford.

Some residents expressed concerns during meetings that their rates would increase under the proposed merger. Heritage Village Water customers had their rates increase due to a sewage treatment plant upgrade.

Thornburg did tell Heritage Village residents that if there are upgrades to other Connecticut Water districts that the current Heritage Village Water Co. clients would not be asked to pay for those projects, the Rep-Am reports.
