Section of Route 34 in Oxford Closed Following Accident

CL&P crews repairing downed wires; road should be reopened within a couple hours, police say.

A section of Route 34 near Punkup Road is closed Monday morning following a one-car accident that occurred just after midnight this morning, police said.

The driver of a car traveling southbound on Route 34 lost control, striking a utility pole and causing wires to fall, police said. Nobody was injured in the accident, police said.

Route 34 near the Monroe line is closed at its intersection with Punkup Road to its intersection with Route 188 in Seymour, police said.

As of 6 a.m. Monday, Connecticut Light & Power crews were working on fixing the pole and the road was expected to be reopened  within a couple of hours, police said.

Drivers are being detoured from East Village Road to Route 111 to get around the accident.
