An Oxford 8th grader raised over $1,000 in honor of her 6th grade brother who is a 5 year cancer survivor.

On Saturday, May 13, 2017 Madeline Haefele hosted a St. Baldrick’s Foundation “Rock the Bald” Conquer Childhood Cancer fundraiser at Great Oak Middle School. Madeline, an 8th grader, was raising funds for the second year in a row. Her younger brother, James, is a 5 year cancer survivor. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s events have helped raise $200 million for lifesaving childhood cancer research. Great Oak Middle School students raised over $200. by selling purple ribbons (in honor of one of their own who is battling cancer) and bracelets. The New Era Barbershop of Beacon Falls provided the haircuts. By the end of the day, the grand total of funds raised from this event totaled over $1,000. If you would like to contribute to this worthwhile cause, log-on to St. Baldrick’s and search for the Great Oak Middle School event.
