View Vintage Children's Books, an 18th Century Loom and More at the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead
"The Tale of Peter Rabbit" and other books by Beatrix Potter collected by Louise Burr are on display at the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead Museum in Oxford on Sunday, May 18, from 2-4 p.m. Mrs. Burr has paired each title with appropriate animal figurines. Also on view are antique and vintage children's books from 1900 - 1975 enjoyed by generations of the McConaghie/McGugan family of Washington, CT and the Buck family of Ansonia. These were loaned to the Oxford Historical Society by Rob Buck.
Visitors may also see a large c1790 loom from the Jensen Family farm on Route 188 in Quaker Farms. Big enough to weave sheets, rugs or table linens, the loom was assembled using the Roman numerals scratched into the wood. Volunteers are now making heddles in preparation for warping the loom so it can be used just as it was in the 18th Century.
Docent led tours are available. For further information call 203 888-0230.
