$48 million Sewer Project Now on Ballot in Ridgefield

The sewer upgrade project will not increase the system's capacity.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Residents will have the opportunity to vote on a proposed $48 million sewer upgrade in November, the News Times is reporting.

If the town secures a construction contract by July, the state will provide grants to cover about $11.5 million of the project. The remaining $37.5 million will be paid from general taxation plus increased rates for those residents benefiting from the new system.

The plan calls for the merging of the town's two wastewater treatment facilities into a single plant and upgrading it to comply with new state and federal standards. Notably, the sewer upgrade project will not increase the system's capacity.

The next hearing for the sewer upgrade project will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Town Hall.
