5 Things All About Ridgefield: Feb. 7

Board of education meeting, spanish at the library, father-and-son art exhibits, birthdays today and an island's independence.

  • The Board of Education will hold another special meeting regarding the proposed budget, this time focusing on technology, special education, pupil services, health and transportation. These meetings are well-attended and informative, and anyone looking to understand more of the school budget process is urged to attend the 7:30 p.m. meeting at the Town Hall Annex.
  • Check out "Fun With Español" at the Ridgefield Library for children in first, second and third grade -- with games, songs and activities, learning a language can be fun. Call Geri Diorio at (203) 438-2282 for the 4:30 p.m. event.
  • Also at the library, a special exhibit is being shown this month by Herbert and Yonason Herschlag, father-and-son artists specializing in painting and visual arts. The exhibit can be seen in the Dayton Program Room during regular library hours.
  • Happy birthday to actor Ashton Kutcher, basketball player Steve Nash, British comedian Eddie Izzard and journalist and author Gay Talese.
  • The island nation of Grenada celebrates its independence from the United Kingdom on this day -- the inaugural year of its independence was 1974.
