Alan Menken and Lindsay Mendez Join ACT of CT Artistic Board
The Disney and Broadway legends will add their expertise to aid in the future success of the theater.
From ACT: ACT (A Contemporary Theater) of Connecticut is thrilled to announce that legendary Broadway and film composer, Alan Menken and 2018 TONY Award® winner Lindsay Mendez, recent star of the Broadway revival of Carousel, have joined ACT’s Artistic Advisory Board, adding their extensive theatrical expertise and talent to aid in the future success of the theater.
Alan Menken is a Disney legend who has won more Academy Awards than any other living individual, including eight Oscars® with 4 for Best Score and 4 for Best Song; 11 Grammy® Awards (including Song of the Year for "A Whole New World"); and 7 Golden Globes. He is best known for his work on Disney films including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, Pocahontas, Enchanted, and Tangled, as well as the onstage musicals Newsies, Little Shop of Horrors, A Christmas Carol and Sister Act. He is currently working with Lin-Manuel Miranda on the new live action version of The Little Mermaid.
Lindsay Mendez is a gifted singer and actress who won the 2018 TONY, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards for her performance as Carrie Pipperidge in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel. Her resume also includes performances in the Broadway hits Wicked, Significant Other, DogFight, Godspell (2011 Revival), Everyday Rapture (Roundabout) and Grease (2007 Revival). Mendez has been a huge supporter of ACT of CT, donating her talents to the inaugural ACT of CT Gala fundraiser, launching the theater’s first Masterclass Workshop in 2017, and she recently performed with ACT of CT’s Resident Music Director, Bryan Perri, to a sold-out audience in the Broadway Unplugged series, a one-of-a-kind evening of great conversation, behind-the-scenes stories, and extraordinary music.
“We are ecstatic to welcome Alan and Lindsay to our ACT Artistic Advisory Board! Their passion for new regional theater and their support of ACT is overwhelming. I know their generous contribution to ACT will yield incredible dividends for the local arts community." stated ACT of CT Artistic Director, Daniel C. Levine.
