RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Economic and Community Development Commission on April 13 reappointed its representative to the Western Connecticut Tourism District and moved forward with planning efforts tied to the town’s Cultural District, marketing strategy and consultant hiring.
The commission unanimously approved March meeting minutes and confirmed Commissioner Jennifer Gioffre as its representative to the Western Connecticut Tourism District.
Commissioner Corrin Arasa reported that a newly formed Cultural District working group has met multiple times to establish priorities for 2026–27, focusing on increasing awareness and launching marketing initiatives to attract visitors.
The group is preparing to launch an Instagram account and plans to promote Ridgefield artists and public art installations while participating in local events this summer.
The commission also confirmed that the Cultural District Awards ceremony will be held May 18 at Keeler Tavern Garden, with attendance limited to recipients and their families.
Separately, members noted an upcoming nonprofit fair scheduled for April 19 at Yanity Gym.
The commission is finalizing a job description for a part-time consultant to support several initiatives, including the Tiger Shark Tank business program, Ridgefield Connect networking events, and Cultural District projects.
Members said the position will likely be limited in duration due to budget constraints and may take on additional responsibilities following Commissioner Sean Dowd’s decision not to renew his term.
Dowd said he will assist in transitioning responsibilities for the Tiger Shark Tank program to ensure continuity.
Commissioners discussed ongoing marketing efforts, including a newly completed annual marketing calendar and plans for Ridgefield Connect, a business networking event scheduled for May 26 at Keeler Tavern. Organizers said they are seeking to feature a panel of local businesswomen.
The commission also continues to explore ways to strengthen coordination with the Planning and Zoning Commission and is working to maintain a current listing of commercial properties available for lease or sale, which may be linked to the town’s website.
The commission entered executive session at 7:40 p.m. to discuss real estate matters and returned to open session at 8:14 p.m. No votes were taken during the session.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
