RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Ridgefield Arts Council approved its fiscal year 2026-27 budget and finalized preparations for Make Music Day during its June 3 meeting at Town Hall.
Council members unanimously approved the budget without changes, according to the treasurer's report. The council also noted that expenses from its recent Behind the Scenes event and upcoming Planning and Zoning-related costs associated with Make Music Day would be submitted this month.
Members also approved the minutes from the council's April 28 meeting.
A significant portion of the meeting focused on planning for Make Music Day, the annual community-wide music celebration scheduled for June 21, which falls on Father's Day this year. Organizers said performances and activities will run from noon to 7 p.m. at locations throughout town, with event tents planned at both the Ridgefield Library and Town Hall. Council members volunteered to assist with setup, breakdown and other logistics.
The council also discussed marketing efforts for the event, including social media promotion, photography and videography coverage, and possible interviews with venue hosts, musicians and attendees. Members said the content could be used in future promotional campaigns.
Council members reflected on the recent Behind the Scenes event, describing it as a successful celebration of Ridgefield's arts community. Members praised the participation of the Ridgefield High School String Quartet and the event venue at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center. The council said it plans to continue partnering with the Economic and Community Development Commission on future editions of the event.
In committee updates, members reported that the recipient of the council's annual scholarship attended the Behind the Scenes event and received scholarship funds. The council is still awaiting proceeds from a scholarship fundraiser held at The Lantern and plans to follow up.
Members also reported that repairs to the council's downtown arts banners have been completed. Preparations are underway for Pride in the Park, where council members plan to host a booth and community activities.
Additional updates included enhancements to the council's information page on the town website and plans to order new member name tags. Members also noted that the next meeting of the East Alliance for Downtown Ridgefield is scheduled for June 12 at ACT of Connecticut.
The meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m. following a unanimous vote. The council's next meeting is scheduled for July 8.
