Ridgefield will receive over $400K for a Danbury Road sidewalk extension through a Connecticut transportation grant program.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield will receive $408,811 from the state for the Danbury Road Sidewalk Extension project, Gov. Ned Lamont and Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto announced.

The grant is part of $10.8 million being awarded to 17 Connecticut towns and cities through the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Community Connectivity Grant Program.

The competitive, state-funded program provides construction funding to municipalities for infrastructure projects intended to improve safety, accessibility and mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Lamont said the program supports local infrastructure work, including sidewalks, bicycle connections and links to jobs, schools and businesses.

Eucalitto said towns and cities set their own infrastructure priorities, and the program provides resources to help carry them out.

The funding can be used only for construction activities. Municipalities receiving grants are expected to complete their projects within three years.

The eighth round of awards also includes grants for projects in Bethel, Bloomfield, Brooklyn, Deep River, Derby, Essex, Greenwich, Groton, Middlefield, Naugatuck, New Britain, New London, New Milford, Portland, Shelton and Voluntown.

Since the program began in 2019, 172 grants totaling more than $84 million have been awarded to Connecticut towns and cities.
