Ridgefield To Open Cooling Center As Temps Set To Sizzle

Gov. Lamont announced that he is ordering the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to be activated effective at noon on Tuesday

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Town of Ridgefield will be making the Rec Center available to residents as a Cooling Center, as temperatures are expected to climb to crazy-hot this week.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced on Monday that he is ordering the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to be activated effective at noon on Tuesday through at least 6:00 pm on Sunday.

Dangerous levels of heat and humidity are expected as the week progresses, with multiple chances for thunderstorms, according to meteorologists.

The Recreation Center at 195 Danbury Rd will be open for cooling to Ridgefield residents during regular business hours. Be sure to check in at the front desk.

Peak temperatures are expected during the afternoon hours of Thursday, July 2, 2026, and Friday, July 3, 2026, when highs are expected to reach 100 degrees and heat indices could climb up to 110 degrees each day, according to the National Weather Service.
