Temperatures Soar, Ridgefield To Open Cooling Center

The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for the state for Tuesday and Wednesday

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Town of Ridgefield will be making the Rec Center available to residents as a Cooling Center, as temperatures are expected to climb through most of this week.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced that he is ordering the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to be activated effective at 11 a.m. on Tuesday through at least 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for the state for Tuesday and Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s. Combined with the expected humidity, it will feel even hotter, forecasters said.

According to WFSB, a weak cold front will move through Connecticut late Wednesday, with an isolated thunderstorm possible.

“Behind the front, humidity drops off significantly, and temperatures begin to ease as well,” WFSB reports. “Highs will be around 90 on Thursday (if we reach 90 then our 3rd heat wave of ‘26 will be achieved) before falling back into the mid 80s by Friday.”

The Recreation Center at 195 Danbury Rd will be open for cooling to Ridgefield residents during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Be sure to check in at the front desk.
