RIDGEFIELD, CT — A Ridgefield teenager died Saturday morning after a car accident in the driveway of a home on Wilton Road West.
The Ridgefield Police Department told Hearst they responded to the scene around 8:40 a.m. Max Fehring, 17, was pronounced dead there.
The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the death was an accident caused by "blunt injuries of head, torso and extremities," according to the office.
Wendy Neil, head of school, told Patch that Immaculate held a "standing room only service" in its chapel Monday morning for a student whose impact on the school had been "profound." The school will be providing grief counseling services.
"As friends shared stories of Max, a beautiful portrait of his life emerged. They spoke of his genuine compassion for others, his remarkable intellect that never made anyone feel less than him, his unwavering commitment to doing things the right way, his quick wit and incredible sense of humor, and the quiet but steadfast faith that guided his life," Neil said.
St. Mary Parish said in a Facebook post Sunday that the Fehring family has set up a memorial at their home on Wilton Road West. Msgr. Kevin T. Royal, the parish's pastor, said in the post that visitors are welcome to offer a prayer, light a candle, or leave flowers in memory of Max.
"Please keep the Fehring family in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this heartbreaking loss," the pastor wrote. "May God's love and peace bring them strength and comfort in the days ahead."
The social thread filled quickly with testimonies from Max's former coaches, teachers, teammates, friends and family, who described him variously as "motivated," "hardworking," and "always a class role model."
Memorial service details have not yet been released.
