RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum will offer a three-part art history class series in September focused on contemporary art.

The series, "Getting" Contemporary Art, will be led by Kristen Erickson, an art history teacher and director of the Luchsinger Gallery at Greenwich Academy, according to the museum.

Classes are scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 15, 22 and 29, at The Aldrich, 258 Main St. Participants may register for the full series or a single class.

The program will use the museum's current exhibition, "The Aldrich Decennial: I Am What Is Around Me," as a way to discuss contemporary art more broadly. The exhibition surveys 40 artists living and working in Connecticut, according to the release.

The museum said the series will take place in its gallery spaces rather than in a traditional lecture format. Sessions will include close looking, conversation and selected readings.

The Sept. 15 class, "Cultural Legacies / Journeys / Identity / Displacement," will focus on how place, memory and cultural heritage shape artistic practice.

The Sept. 22 class, "Domesticity And Memory / Heirlooms," will examine how contemporary artists use ideas of home, memory and everyday life to reflect on identity, history and family.

The Sept. 29 class, "'Gorgeous Nothings' — Decennial Artists And Literary Connections," will consider connections between literature and visual art, including how artists use poetry, fiction and storytelling.

"The Aldrich Decennial: I Am What Is Around Me" is organized by Aldrich Board Chair Diana Bowes, Chief Curator Amy Smith-Stewart and Assistant Curator and Publications Manager Caitlin Monachino, according to the release.
