RIDGEFIELD, CT — Aquarion Water Authority said it will begin construction Oct. 19 at its seasonal wellfield treatment facility at 9 Norrans Ridge Drive in Ridgefield.
The work includes installing two filter vessels containing granulated activated carbon media to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS, from well water before it enters the water distribution system, according to Aquarion.
The authority said the project is intended to ensure that drinking water treated at the facility complies with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Primary Drinking Water Regulation for six PFAS, which was announced April 10, 2024.
The project is expected to be completed by spring 2027, according to Aquarion.
"We greatly appreciate residents' patience as we complete this important project," Mike Hiltz, Aquarion's manager of project delivery, engineering and planning, said in the release. "We will work closely with our customers, neighbors, contractors, and town officials to coordinate the work and minimize any disruptions during construction."

Aquarion said the project is expected to have little to no effect on traffic in the area. Access to the local walking trail will be maintained throughout construction.
