5 Things To Know In Ridgefield: Public Safety Buildings, Voter Deadline, WPCA Wins $1.1M And More

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield's Public Safety Facilities Committee hears from its consultant and the police and fire chiefs, Friday is the last day to register before Election Day, and the WPCA says its South Street plant upgrade came in under budget.

1. Public Safety Facilities Committee Hears From Consultant, Chiefs
When: Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m.
Where: Large Conference Room, Town Hall, 400 Main St.
What to know: The committee's special meeting includes a presentation from KBA on its assignments to date, comments from the police and fire chiefs, an update from the director of public works and facilities, member progress reports and new milestones, according to the agenda. Public comment opens the meeting.

2. Friday Is The Deadline To Register Before Election Day
When: Friday, Oct. 16; enrollment session 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Registrars of Voters office, Town Hall, 400 Main St.
What to know: Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Oct. 16, DMV registrations done by close of business and online registrations by 11:59 p.m., according to the town's voting guide. The registrars will hold an in-person enrollment session in their Town Hall office that day. Early voting runs Oct. 19 to Nov. 1 at Town Hall, with same-day registration, and absentee voting is open to all voters.

3. Property Tax Grace Period Runs To Nov. 2
When: Due now; grace period runs through Monday, Nov. 2
Where: Tax Collector, Town Hall, 400 Main St.
What to know: The second quarterly payment on real and personal property taxes was due Oct. 1, and payments made by Nov. 2 avoid interest, according to the town. After that, the installment is charged 3 percent interest plus 1.5 percent a month, with a $2 minimum. Payments can be made by phone, text or online.

4. WPCA: Plant Upgrade Under Budget, No Sewer Rate Hike Planned
When: Recent update
Where: South Street Wastewater Treatment Facility, South Street
What to know: The South Street wastewater treatment plant upgrade is complete and closed out, and the town recovered $1.146 million in liquidated damages from the contractor this summer for delays, according to the WPCA. The project came in under budget, drew about $12 million in state Clean Water Fund grants and now meets one of the strictest phosphorus limits in the state. The WPCA says it isn't planning a sewer rate increase for fiscal 2027.

5. Town Hall Closed Monday
When: Monday, Oct. 12
Where: Town Hall, 400 Main St.
What to know: Town Hall offices are closed Monday, according to the town calendar. Town Hall and the Town Hall Annex are also closed every Friday.
