Ridgefield Library will honor Lynn Caponera at its Great Expectations Gala on Saturday, May 15, 2027, the library announced. Caponera, a Ridgefield native, is president of the board and executive director of The Maurice Sendak Foundation.
Caponera was author and illustrator Maurice Sendak's longtime assistant and has worked to preserve his artistic legacy since his death in 2012, according to the library. Under her leadership, the foundation has expanded educational and artistic initiatives, strengthened nonprofit partnerships and increased public access to Sendak's work through exhibitions, publications and artist residency programs.
"We are thrilled to honor Lynn Caponera and The Maurice Sendak Foundation for their long partnership with the Ridgefield Library," library director Brenda McKinley said in the announcement. "Our many collaborations are grounded in shared missions that celebrate outstanding children's literature and picture books and promote access to both as an essential part of early literacy and childhood. The Gala invites the community to an evening of celebration in support of this important work."
