Author of 'Reefer Sanity' to Speak at MCAA's Awards Dinner on Impact of 'Big Marijuana'
What would 'Big Marijuana' mean for the people of Ridgefield, Connecticut? Find out at MCAA's upcoming event in Danbury.
Dr. Kevin Sabet, Ph.D., will be speaking at MCCA’s Annual Awards Dinner on February 25 at the Ethan Allen Inn in Danbury.
MCCA is the Midwestern Connecticut Council of Alcoholism, Inc., a substance abuse prevention, evaluation and treatment center serving the greater Danbury area.
Sabet has been the drug policy adviser to three presidents, according to MCAA’s press release. He served in the Obama administration as senior adviser at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and worked in the Clinton (2000) and Bush (2002-2003) administrations.

At the upcoming lecture, he will share a message about the ramifications of legalizing marijuana. “In theory, it sounds like rainbows and unicorns - tax revenues, getting rid of gangs, and keeping it out of the hands of kids, but in reality it means gummy bears and ‘pot tarts’ marketed to 15-year-olds,” Sabet said.
In a release MCCA stated they are bringing Sabet to Connecticut because they “believe the people of this state need to be fully informed when any discussion with marijuana takes place. Sabet’s message is clear, ’We don’t need Big Marijuana targeting us and saddling our country with enormous social costs. And we don’t need Big Tobacco taking over Big Marijuana.’”
