Demonstration Against Middle East War Demands Congress Fund People, Not Unending Conflict

Event Details

St Stephen's Episcopal Church, 353 Main St, Ridgefield, CT, 06877

On Monday, March 30, clergy, veterans, moral leaders, as well as the general public, will gather outdoors from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Ridgefield for prayer, testimony, and witness against unauthorized military action in the Middle East. The church is located at 353 Main Street. All are welcome to attend. Demonstrators will call on Congress to end funding for an unauthorized war and redirect those resources toward the life-giving programs — Medicaid, SNAP, housing, education, and more — that sustain millions of Americans.

The action — part of the "Moral Mondays" movement — is being held across 15 locations, led by Bishop William J. Barber II  (pictured), President and Sr. Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach, and Yale Divinity School Professor in the Practice of Public Theology and Public Policy, and Founding Director of the Center for Public Theology and Public Policy at Yale Divinity.

“The current moment is one of moral crisis and requires immediate and sustained public response,” said Bishop Barber. “During this Holy Week, people of conscience must reject the unholiness of war and refuse to separate Holy Week language, ritual, or faith practice from the suffering and policy violence unfolding in real time. We come together to not only say what we oppose, but also what we are for: peace, humanity, justice, truth, nonviolence, and public investment in life-giving priorities.”
