The Ridgefield Historical Society’s annual meeting will take place at the Scott House, 4 Sunset Lane, and via Zoom on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026 at 5 p.m.

Join the Ridgefield Historical Society to celebrate the many accomplishments of the past year as we look forward to a very busy 2027, when the Battle of Ridgefield’s 250th anniversary will be a highlight in April and our collaboration with the Ridgefield Garden Club on the Ridgefield Garden Tour will be be a special event in June.
All current members are invited to hear President Steven Meyers’ annual report and learn about the current and future projects and programs. The session also will include the election of a slate of officers and directors.

Medicare can be confusing, especially when plans, costs, and coverage can change from year to year. With Medicare Open Enrollment right around the corner, this is a good time to understand your options and make sure your coverage is still working for you.Join Karen for a practical, easy-to-understand conversation about Medicare. Karen will explain how Medicare works, the choices available to you, what to review in your current coverage, and what to consider before making changes.
Ridgefield Social Services has a team of certified Medicare CHOICES counselors available to help you review your coverage. Last year, Ridgefield’s counselors helped local residents save over $545,000 in projected prescription costs for 2026. Don’t miss your chance to save as well!
Medicare Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, with changes taking effect January 1, 2027. Even if you’re happy with your current coverage, plans can change their costs, benefits, provider networks, and prescription drug coverage each year, making an annual review worthwhile.
Bring your questions and leave better prepared to make informed decisions about your Medicare coverage for the year ahead.

Peggy Bruno, a certified teacher, has developed computer courses and trained over a thousand adults in computer applications over a 30 year period. She previously worked in corporate marketing and information services. She has also taught Microsoft Office at the community college level. She holds a BA and MA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Registration contact information and the website link to all classes, as well as a downloadable brochure, is at the bottom of this article.&nbsp;LaBlast Fitness ® Cardio Dance Workout with Light Weights You will get your heart rate up and sweat a bit with this aerobic workout created by Louis Van Amstel of Dancing with the Stars. LaBlast® is a partner-free, simple, low impact, safe, cardio / ballroom dance workout for all levels. Some exercises use optional light weights. There is no mat. It's fun and energizing. Beginners are encouraged to attend. Wear sneakers and bring light hand weights (if you have them) and a water bottle. Instructor Denise Nethercott started ballroom dancing in 2011 and has successfully competed as an amateur ballroom dancer with Fred Astaire Dance Studios. She is an Open Gold level dancer with numerous accomplishments. Denise's mission is to combine her passion for ballroom dance with her passion for physical fitness. LaBlast® is a fun, safe exercise program that combines the love of dance with the need to move our bodies. Denise became a certified LaBlast® Fitness instructor in 2019 and started Dance Fit with Denise in 2021. More bio on website.

Zumba ® 
Zumba, a high energy fitness workout, combines Latin and internatonal music with dance moves, creating a fun and effective workout. It incorporates elements of aerobic, interval and resistance training, maximizing calorie burning and cardiovascular benefits. Move to the rhythm of salsa, flamenco, merengue and other global beats. Wear sneakers and bring a water bottle. Instructor Yolima Solano (Tuesdays at 6 pm) is licensed in Zumba ®, a life long dancer originally from Colombia, who enjoys teaching Zumba ® in the area. She is also a dental hygienist.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jill Savitti (Thursdays at 6:30 pm) is Zumba certified and has taught in this area about 8 years.

Full Body Burn and Tone&nbsp;- on ZOOM Only This full body workout, led by Pat Anikewich, is designed to burn calories and sculpt lean muscle by using elements of cardio, strength training, and stretch. The class is good for beginners, intermediate and advanced participants. Modifications are always offered in a non-intimidating environment. Weights are encouraged, (bring your own) but not required. Please have available weights of your choice, towel, mat and water. Instructor Patricia Anikewich holds many group exercise certifications and teaches at many Westchester and Connecticut fitness centers. Make up date, if needed, is early January.

Sleepy Time for Gardens:Putting Your Gardens to Bed This Autumn Many gardeners in the past spent a lot of time in their gardens in the Autumn, preparing them for over wintering.&nbsp; New Best Practices advise significant changes in the way we approach these tasks.&nbsp; If we follow these recommendations, we will save ourselves much effort while providing wildlife a restful Winter during which they can complete his class will explore the reasons for the new methods from the bottom (roots and soil) up and from the top (canopy) down.&nbsp; We will consider planting options for the cool of Autumn, including some specific shrubs, trees, and perennials, as well as ground covers and determine why layering our property is a healthful strategy for the environment.&nbsp; Instructor Jackie Algon&nbsp;is an Advanced Master Gardener and a Board member of the Pollinator Pathway.&nbsp; She has also taught many classes in the CT Master Gardener program.

Mushroom Walk with Mycologist, Zaac Chaves Grab a notebook and join Zaac Chaves on a mycologically focused ecological tour at a state park&nbsp;Ridgefield (a different state park than we have used in the past). During this outing we will identify seasonal mushrooms. You will help us catalog species (including possibly rare sightings) and even help document increasing evidence of climate change locally. No experience required. Zaac Chaves works on species surveys for several sites and sometimes with organizations including Harvard University, the New York Botanical Gardens, and the National Parks Service. We have found several new species at many sites and are also helping recognize others which are rare and disappearing. He also serves as the chief editor of the Boston Mycological Club Bulletin, established in 1897. 1 Session $ 29 (Ridgefield Sr./Disab. $ 25) Sun., 10/18 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. &nbsp;Held at a public park in Ridgefield.
