Ridgefield is Thinking Pozzotive!
We are turning green over the New/Pound Street sidewalk project, and Pozzotive Ground Glass Pozzolan (GGP) is the reason why. This innovative cement replacement made entirely from recycled glass can replace up to 50% of cement in concrete, reducing CO2 emissions on a ton for ton basis.
Concrete is the most widely used building material in the world. The production of the cement used to make concrete contributes to about 8% of the earth’s carbon dioxide emissions. Research has shown that the use of Pozzotive in construction projects has produced a carbon savings of 100 million pounds. In addition, Pozzotive creates a higher performing, longer lasting concrete and the production utilizes 100% of recycled glass regardless of color, size or presence of ceramics.
The pouring of the Pozzotive GGP concrete began this morning! When installation is complete, New and Pound Streets will enjoy eco-friendly sidewalks that are safer, more durable, and higher performing. Pat yourself on the back Ridgefield, because your recycling of glass had something to do with that. From 2019 through the first quarter of 2024, Ridgefield has recycled over 500.81 tons of glass and in the first quarter of 2024 alone, we've captured 23.75 tons!
Eco-friendly concrete is another step in the right direction toward sustainable living. Who knows what’s next?! What we do know is that the Town’s commitment to helping the environment is unabating and we hope that this enthusiasm is an inspiration to all.
