Construction For Ridgefield Main Street Realignment Begins This Week
Construction in Ridgefield will begin at the Main Street and Prospect Street intersection and proceed south toward Governor Street.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — A six-month construction project on Main Street, designed to enhance both the flow of traffic and pedestrian safety, is scheduled to get underway April 23.
The overall design of the realignment of Main Street was evaluated and approved by the Town of Ridgefield and the State Department of Transportation, with input from residents and Main Street merchants. The "Main Street Project" is being funded 20 percent by the State of Connecticut, with the remainder paid for by the federal government, according to a news release from the First Selectman's Office.
Construction will begin at the Main Street and Prospect Street intersection and proceed south toward Governor Street. The entrance to the CVS parking lot will be realigned with Prospect Street, allowing for cars to enter and exit more efficiently.

The "Main Street Project" will feature dedicated turning lanes at each intersection, new landscaping to reflect the downtown's aesthetic, nine additional parking spaces in the CVS parking lot, bump-outs to calm traffic, and pedestrian-activated, flashing crosswalk signs.
"We are also committed to maintaining the cherished beauty that defines Ridgefield," First Selectman Rudy Marconi said in a statement. Work will take place in the evening hours, and is slated to be complete before Thanksgiving.
