Coronavirus Ridgefield: Schools Deep Clean, Cancel Events

Ridgefield has announced the latest measures they will be taking to deal with the coronavirus.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Interim Schools Superintendent JeanAnn C. Paddyfote has announced the latest measures that Ridgefield Public Schools will be taking to deal with the new coronavirus, on the District website:

Field Trips

  • Postponement of all in-state and out-of-state field trips through May 1.
  • The District will use its best effort to reschedule field trips, if possible, when there is no longer a public health risk.

School Day and After School Events

  • Postponement of all school day and after school large gatherings through May 1.
  • The District will try to reschedule events, if possible, when there is no longer a public health risk.

Athletics

  • The spring sports kickoff meeting and breakout sessions have been cancelled.
  • Athletic information related to each sport will be emailed to those who register.
  • Based on current conditions and guidelines, spring sports tryouts and practices will occur as scheduled.
  • Decisions regarding spring sports competitions will be shared prior to the first day of tryouts, March 21.

Food Service

  • Schools' food services provider, Chartwells, increased their normal cleaning protocols to include additional high touch surfaces.

Continuity of Learning Opportunities

  • Learning packets will be accessible through the District's website if there is a prolonged closure. These learning packets are not considered distance learning.
  • Families who cannot access the packet through the District's website should request a packet from their child's school.
  • The Connecticut Department of Education expects districts to exhaust all possible make-up days before applying for a waiver. Additionally, school districts that request a waiver must ensure that all students have equitable opportunities for learning.

Rental Use of Our Schools

  • In order to mitigate the potential spread of coronavirus, school facility user groups will be notified that the schools will not be available for their activities through May 1.
  • The Facilities Department will notify user groups when coronavirus is no longer a public health concern.

Cleaning Our Schools

  • The Schools Facilities Department continues to clean our schools with EPA approved disinfectants.
  • Schools custodians continue to be ever vigilant in ensuring that all high-touch surfaces are properly disinfected and sanitized several times during the day and evening.

Transportation

  • All student transportation providers are disinfecting vehicles every day.

Presidential Primary on April 28

  • The District will work with the Registrar of Voters and appropriate State agencies to determine the course of action for that day.

Out of Country Travel

The District will continue to monitor all conditions and make necessary adjustments based on the dynamics of the situation.
