CT Driver without Licence or Interlock found Smoking Pot in NY: Sheriff

MAHOPAC, NY — Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Connecticut man on a variety of charges.

It started when Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Fini Drive in Mahopac at 12:55 a.m. Nov. 9. Approaching the car, the deputy detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the interior.

In sequence, police say they discovered that:

• The driver, identified as Jonathan J. Ganjian, 30, of 7 Joels Drive, New Fairfield, Connecticut, was in possession of a quantity of marijuana.
• Ganjian had been driving while his privilege to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York is revoked.
• Ganjian’s revocation was the result of a DWI conviction, and he is subject to a court-ordered ignition interlock device.
• Ganjian had been operating a vehicle that had not been equipped with an interlock device.

Radovich arrested Ganjian and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation; Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor; and with Circumvention of an Interlock Device, a misdemeanor.

The New Fairfield resident was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released after posting $250 bail. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Carmel Justice Court to answer the charges on Dec. 13, 2016.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, he could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
