Daily Connecticut Coronavirus Positivity Rate Jumps Over 2 Points

CONNECTICUT — The daily coronavirus rate in the state has jumped over two points.

The data compiled Monday and released Tuesday by the state Department of Public Health shows a spike in the rate to 4.96 percent, up from 2.95 the previous day.

Speaking at the annual Connecticut Business Day confab, hosted by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association on Tuesday, Gov. Ned Lamont acknowledged that coronavirus cases had "trended up" over the past few days. The governor said he remained confident that the move to eliminate capacity restrictions for businesses and restaurants beginning Friday was the right one, as "the most vulnerable in our population have been vaccinated, or will be vaccinated in less than a week."

As for that other major indicator used by state officials to determine re-openings or re-closings, there was much better news. Coronavirus hospitalizations dropped 4 beds. There are now 403 residents hospitalized with COVID-19.

An additional 853 COVID-19 cases were logged by the state Department of Public Health, bringing the total number to 293,955.

The coronavirus death toll in the state is now 7,799, following the 11 new deaths recorded on Monday.
