Join Aldrich exhibiting artist James Grashow to design and create a corrugated garden in the museum sculpture garden for all of the community to enjoy. Flowers, butterflies, caterpillars, ants, bugs, water cans, bird houses—anything you can think of—will populate this fantasy cardboard garden! Then, come see the garden completely assembled at an end-of-summer celebration on Friday, August 10, from 4 to 6 pm. Art Daze I morning programs at The Aldrich allow children aged four to six years old to work with artists to experience the groundbreaking directions of today’s contemporary art. Participants in the two-day sessions unleash their creative talents to design, build, learn new concepts, experiment with materials, and have fun with their peers in a museum setting. About the artist: Local artistic icon James Grashow was born in Brooklyn in 1942 and creates works that address themes of man, nature, and mortality. He is also a well-known woodcut artist, whose prints have been featured regularly in The New York Times and other publications throughout the country. Grashow attended Pratt Institute, where he received a BFA. On graduation, he was awarded a Fulbright Travel Grant for painting and graphics to Florence, Italy. After a year abroad, he returned to Pratt to receive his MFA. James Grashow had his first sculpture exhibition at the Allan Stone Gallery in 1966. This began a relationship with the Allan Stone Gallery that continues to this day.
