Drop-In Weekends Inspired by Barrão and Roy McMakin

Creating artworks from found materials and objects is a long-established and important tradition in art history. During the Found exhibition semester, each exhibiting artist will be featured during Drop-In Weekends through one or more hands-on projects that relate to his or her work on view in the galleries. Visitors are invited to pick up a Drop Into Found Passport at the Museum’s front desk, and to experience a wide range of unique materials and artistic processes in the Education Center.

Explore the ideas of collecting, categorizing and reassembling found in Barrão’s exhibition by creating mixed media sculptures and collages. Repurpose, reuse, recycle, and reimagine!

Then, investigate how furniture can be functional and still reveal your individual style and perspective in hands-on projects inspired by Roy McMakin’s exhibition, Middle. Design objects and environments that are distinctively your own.

The artists represented in the Found exhibitions continue the traditional practices of transformation, recycling, and appropriation and are united in believing, as did so many of the visionaries who came before, that the repurposing and re-presentation of commonplace items and ideas narrows the gap between art and life.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore and use a variety of materials and techniques, deepening their connection to and understanding of the work and concepts presented by the Found artists. Drop in and find out what Found has to offer!

Visitors of all ages are invited to engage with the Found exhibitions through hands-on art-making projects in the Education Center, open during Museum hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
