American bison, beavers, dolphins, the American male: learn about these creatures, and more—all unique to the United States—at the Fair for Knowledge, presented by The Aldrich in partnership with Cabinet, an award-winning quarterly magazine of art and culture based in New York.
Created by Cabinet and designed to encourage an informal, social, and open mode of learning, the Fair for Knowledge aims to create bridges by providing unusual venues for short, spontaneous one-on-one discussions between a specialist and a member of the general public. Visit the Museum’s Old Hundred building and stop by the four booths, each with an authority on a specific animal indigenous to the United States. In ten or fifteen minutes, discover unusual facts about species only found in this country or region, then visit the next stall, and the next! Join the Aldrich and our guest experts-in-residence for an afternoon of facts and fascination.
About Cabinet: Founded as a nonprofit in 2000, Cabinet confounds expectations of what is typically meant by the words “art,” “culture,” and sometimes even “magazine.” Its hybrid sensibility merges the popular appeal of an arts periodical, the visually engaging style of a design magazine, and the in-depth exploration of a scholarly journal to create a sourcebook of ideas for an eclectic international audience of readers, from artists and designers to scientists, philosophers, and historians. Using essays, interviews, and artist projects to present a wide range of topics in language accessible to the non-specialist,Cabinet is designed to encourage a new culture of curiosity.
