Makers Night: Candle Making with McKendree Key

Discover the traditional process for creating beautiful hand-dipped beeswax candles. Artist McKendree Key will lead participants through steps to make a bundle of pure beeswax tapered candles and a poured votive, experimenting with color and varied techniques.

McKendree Key is a multi-disciplinary artist with over ten years of teaching experience, including at Studio in a School and Socrates Sculpture Park. She has conducted workshops at PS1, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Aldrich. Key has exhibited her work, which includes installation, collage, and video, at PS1, The Sculpture Center, CUE Art Foundation, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Socrates Sculpture Park, and Caren Golden Fine Art, among other venues.

Makers Night, The Aldrich’s do-it yourself workshop series, offers informal, creative experiences for artisans at all levels of ability. The sessions emphasize observation, process, and discussion through diverse art-making activities, in a social environment.

Materials and refreshments will be provided.

Makers Night is sponsored by The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Special thanks to our media sponsors Morris Media Group, publishers of Ridgefield Magazine, and WSHU Public Radio.
