The Ridgefield Theater Barn will hold open auditions for Word Around Town: An Evening of Original Poetry on Sunday, April 1, at 3pm and Monday, April 2, at 7pm. The show itself, directed by Patti Azzara and produced by Marla Manning, will be presented Tuesday, June 12th and Wednesday, June 13th at 7:30pm.
This popular event has become a creative mainstay on the Barn calendar because of the refreshing contributions of original verse from the minds of local wordsmiths. Each Word Around Town event, though similar in format and style, is re-imagined by director Patti Azzara, based on the participants and the themes that emerge. Ms. Azzara, a poet herself, hopes this evening of free-form and prose will continue to encourage self-expression through the poetic arts, while also promoting local artists and their craft.
Those auditioning are asked to bring 4 or 5 short pieces, preferably performed from memory; additional pieces may also be submitted for consideration. All poems (up to 10) should be typed, one poem per page. Preference will be given to free-form poetry and pieces without heavily rhymed line endings. Please wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move well. Poems must be your own original work; not interested in Poe, Keats, or Dickinson, etc. Previously published work is allowed.
Additional details and directions to the theater at ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org or contact Ms. Azzara at patti.r.azzara@gmail.com. Anyone unable to attend auditions should contact the director by April 4 to arrange an alternate audition.
