Passion of John at St. Stephen's Good Friday Service

The 7:30 P.M. Good Friday service at St. Stephen's Episcoal Church will feature the singing of the Passion Gospel of John in the ancient Gregorian chant setting. Three operatic voices will chant the Passion from various positions around the sanctuary.  The singers are (pictured, left to right):  Giustino Capodilupo, tenor, as the voice of John; Scott Toperzer, bass baritone, as the voice of Jesus, and William Joyner, tenor, as various voices from the Passion, including Pontius Pilate and the mob. This moving musical setting focuses on the sublimely simple and repetitive style of the chant, rather than virtuoso vocalism.
