The choir of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will present an Evensong for Trinity Sunday on June 3 at 5 PM. The choir will be led by Scott Toperzer, Minister of Music, and accompanied by Virginia Leeman, organist.
Evensong is the centuries-old and uniquely Anglican/Episcopalian tradition of sung Evening Prayer.
Sunday’s Evensong will feature music written in the 21st century, including “This is the day,” sung at the opening of the service and composed by St. Stephen’s own Stephen Becroft. The canticles (or songs) will be the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis of Simon Lindley, published in 2011 and 2012, respectively. The anthem will be the sublimely beautiful “God of Truth,” published this year by British composer Will Todd.
The service is free to the public, and donations will be accepted to help fund future musical events. A wine and cheese reception in South Hall will follow the service.
