Fire At Golf Art Causes Moderate Damage, No Injuries

Early Wednesday morning around 5 a.m., the Ridgefield Fire Department responded to a fire at Golf Art on Rte. 7.

The structure fire, which was found by the fire marshal's office to be electrical in nature, caused only moderate damage to the building, and no one was injured.

Approximately 25 firefighters responded to the scene, according to a release from Fire Chief Heather Burford, and there was no one inside the building as Golf Art had been closed for the holidays since Dec. 24. The picture framing business has been at that location for 14 years.

Rte. 7 was closed during the firefighters' efforts and opened soon thereafter.

Burford added the following advice for homes and businesses:

"A reminder to all readers to have working smoke detectors in your homes and businesses.  The tragedy that occurred in Stamford on Christmas morning killing five family members is a reminder to all of us of the importance of smoke detectors.  Early notification saves lives and reduces damage.  Please check your smoke detectors today."
