Giving Back

Do you know someone who is a cancer survivor or battling cancer? It seems these days that everyone's life has been touched by cancer.

In honor of National Cancer Survivor's Day, which was this past Sunday, I have decided to donate my hair again. It's finally long enough!

I began this tradition years ago when a dear friend fell ill with cancer. It was completely unexpected. She was way too young to be so sick and I recall feeling like there was little I could do to help her, beyond offering kind words.

My friend didn't win the battle against cancer, but she still guides me every day. She was my mentor. She inspired me to become a teacher, a calling that is integral to my nutrition therapy practice. I know I'm a better person because of her.

I wasn't able to save my friend from cancer, but that doesn't mean I'm helpless to make a difference. I'm also glad to say that I know loved ones who have triumphed over cancer. For all of these people, I donate my hair every 4-5 years to be made into a wig for someone whose hair has been lost as a result of chemotherapy treatments.

If it makes one person feel beautiful on their journey,

it's worth it.

It's always a bit scary taking the plunge, but it seems trivial by comparison. After all, it'll grow back. ;)

I hope you'll join me in this simple gesture.

To Donate:

To make it as simple and stress free as possible,

I offer you two options...

Have your hair cut in the month of June at the salon of your choice. Then, either:

1. Place it in a ziplock bag with your name and contact info and leave it in my mailbox in Ridgefield, CT if your local.

(Contact me for the address.

I won't receive it if it goes to my office.)

OR

2. Let me know you're donating. Then, mail it in a plastic or padded envelope directly to:

Pantene Beautiful Lengths

Attn: 192-123

806 SE 18th Ave.

Grand Rapids, MN 55744
