Madrigal Singers present a free concert

A FREE family-friendly concert, followed by refreshments!

The Danbury Music Centre’s Madrigal Singers presents An Evening of Choral Favorites on Saturday, April 14 at 7:30 pm. The ensemble of 18 select voices, under the direction of Joyce Flanagan, will sing an eclectic program which will appeal to all musical tastes and all ages. This free concert will take place at the Marian Anderson Recital Hall at the Danbury Music Centre (256 Main Street, Danbury) with a reception to follow. Donations at the door are welcomed.

Program:

Salmo 150: Written in 1993 by the Brazilian composer Ernani Aguiar, this exciting piece embodies Psalm 150’s praise of God with an exhilarating tempo and lightning-fast articulations.

Danny Boy: A lush setting of this beloved Irish folk song, arranged the internationally recognized jazz instrumental and vocal arranger Darmon Meader.

Phillis is My Only Joy: This playful piece about a fickle lover, composed by J.W. Hobbs was arranged by the Grammy-winning King’s Singers.

The Heart’s Cry: This touching and lush ballad by B. Whelan is from Riverdance, the famous production that brought Celtic music to the forefront of popular music.

Early One Morning: Arranged by Noble Cain, this 17th century English folksong, (also called The Lamenting Maiden) tells the story of a lover leaving his lass to go to sea.

Alleluia: This much-loved repertoire favorite was composed in only five days by noted American composer Randall Thompson, who was very moved by the fall of France during World War II. This choral gem has enthralled audiences with its tender and meditative harmonic lines.

Oh My Luve’s Like a Red Red Rose: Rich harmonic textures and 19th century Romantic nuances bring this Robert Burns poem to life in Rene Clausen's exquisite choral setting.

Les Miserables medley: Enjoy this exceptional Ed Lojeski arrangement six songs from the Broadway smash hit "Les Miserables." It’s guaranteed to have you singing along by its climactic closing measures.
