The Mavericks' Raul Malo To Perform At The Ridgefield Playhouse

Two socially-distanced, limited capacity shows are scheduled for Feb. 20.

Press release from The Ridgefield Playhouse:

Jan. 21, 2021

Raul Malo is best known as the founder and frontman of Grammy, ACM and CMA award-winning multi-platinum band, The Mavericks. Equal parts Orbison and Pavarotti, Malo is one of the most powerful singers working in any genre.

As the sole writer of many of The Maverick’s songs, he is credited for penning the timeless hits “Here Comes the Rain,” “What A Crying Shame,” “Dance The Night Away,” “Back In Your Arms Again” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down” among many others. Fans can see Raul Malo in two intimate performances – socially distanced seating limited to 100 tickets per show - at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, February 20 at 4pm and 8pm as part of the Ridgefield Magazine Singer Songwriter Series and Mountain Dew Country and Bluegrass Series.

From his earliest days, when his raucous sound broke ground at the punk clubs on Miami Beach more than three decades ago, to recording with the band for their first album entirely in Spanish, En Español, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop chart, Malo has demonstrated an unfailing skill for getting people to groove. Raul Malo is a featured artist of media sponsor 90.7fm WFUV.

Born in Miami to Cuban-American parents who escaped the communist Castro regime in the early 1960s, Malo had a childhood steeped in music of all styles, including the rock and pop hits of the day, Latin, salsa, country, jazz, swing, Tex-Mex, opera and classical music among them. It only made sense that those influences would eventually find their way into The Mavericks’ songbook. They’re a band built on diversity.
