Number of Abandoned Pets on Rise in Ridgefield: PD

The PD is cautioning that this is classified as abandonment, and is a crime.

RIDGEFIELD, CT -- The Ridgefield shelter, as well as the shelters in surrounding towns, have experienced an uptick in pets being left at their doors, the police are reporting.

The PD is cautioning that this is classified as abandonment, and is a crime.

"When an animal is left at the door of a shelter, there is no confirmation of valid rabies inoculations, as well as any other defects or diseases that the animal may potentially have," the Ridgefield police said in a statement released on social media. "This causes risk to employees, other animals, and anyone else that may come in contact with these abandoned animals."
