Obit: Alan Kuller

He helped oversee the expansion of the Caldor department store from nine to more than 100 locations.

Alan Kuller, father of Lisa Kuller (Dalessio) of Ridgefield, died peacefully at home at age of 91 in Rye, New York on December 7 surrounded by his family. Graduated from Erasmus Hall where he was a winner of the Randolph Hearst American History Award. At Columbia he edited The Spectator and Law Review and was designated a Harlan Fiske Stone recipient for distinction in scholarship. He served in the US Navy during WW II.

Predeceased by his wife, Nancy Schoenbrod Kuller, he leaves his long time partner Myra Lehman, his brother Dr. Lewis Kuller of Pittsburgh, 2 other daughters - Debora Shuger and Judith Verhave - 6 grandchildren including Emily, Hannah and Mikaela Dalessio of Ridgefield, and 2 great grandchildren.

During his 30 year career at Caldor, he was Senior VP and Head of Real Estate. During his tenure Caldor grew from 9 to 100+ stores.

Intellectual curiosity, humor, and irreverence marked his attitude towards life. He loved to travel, often off the beaten path. Active in his local synagogue and played a significant role in its adult education program.
