Obituary: Brigitte Kalish, 85, of Ridgefield
She was a Catholic school teacher and immigrant from Czechoslovakia.

RIDGEFIELD, CT -- Brigitte Kalish, 85, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2018, surrounded by family. Affectionately known as "Omi," Brigitte was born in Glaserhau, Czechoslovakia in 1932. She and her family moved to Linz, Austria, during the second world war, and she moved to the United States when she was 19. She became a U.S. citizen.
Brigitte met her future husband, Richard H. Kalish on the USS United States while on a trip back to see her family in Europe. They married in 1959 and had four sons: Richard, Andrew and Paul Kalish. Her sons would later present her with grandchildren Derek, Julia, Ethan and Gavin. She was predeceased by her husband and siblings, Hans Schwarz, Gunther Schwarz, Hilda Binder and Annie Schroetter. Brigitte is survived by all her children and grandchildren as well as her brother Dietrich Schwarz.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, March 27 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, Arch Street, Greenwich, CT. A Celebration of Life service will be on Wednesday, March 28, at 12:30 PM, at Christ Church, 254 E. Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT. Following the service all are welcome to attend a 2:00 PM. lunch reception at the Laurel Athletic Club, 13 North Avenue, Norwalk, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Scleraderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923-1389.
