Obituary: Gloria K. Cummings, 92, Of Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Gloria K. Cummings, 92, of Ridgefield died on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late Howard L. Cummings Sr.

Mrs. Cummings was born in Springfield, MA on May 18, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Elias and Mary (Khallo) Kuselias, who emigrated to the United States from Mardin, Assyria (now Turkey). Gloria grew up in Springfield and attended American International College where she obtained her masters degree in teaching. She began her career in Venezuela, teaching the children of American engineers working in the country. This is where she met her husband Howard.

A resident of Ridgefield since 1967, Mrs. Cummings taught Second Grade students in North Salem, NY until she retired in 1993. Mrs. Cummings was active locally in Ridgefield, and was a member of the International Club and Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church. An avid traveler, Gloria has been all over the world and spoke English, Arabic and Spanish fluently.

Mrs. Cummings is survived by her two sons, Howard Cummings Jr., and James Cummings Sr., and his wife, Lynn Marie. Mrs. Cummings is also survived by five grandchildren: Howard III, Nolan, Gavin, James Jr., and Chloe as well as her sisters, Joan Ajmo, and Lillian Kassir, brother Michael Kuselias, and 18 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Howard Sr., Mrs. Cummings was predeceased by her sister, Amelia Roach and brother Luis Kuselias.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A funeral service in celebration of Mrs. Cummings' life will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church; 353 Main Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery; 110 North Street, Ridgefield.
