RIDGEFIELD, CT —Jerry Kiernan, 84, of Ridgefield passed away suddenly on July 12 at Danbury Hospital where he had been surrounded by his family.

He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Maureen, and his two brothers Dave and Dick Kiernan. He is survived by his daughters Sara Kiernan and Deirdre Kiernan, son-in-law Dean Tantary, and his two grand children Lila and Niall who kept him young.

Born in New Haven in 1937, Jerry graduated from Fairfield Prep in 1955 and Holy Cross College in 1959. He served his draft service in Okinawa, Japan. While employed as a consultant to IBM he met Maureen. The two were married in 1963 and spent most of their lives in Connecticut moving to Ridgefield in 1975.

A member of The American Legion and Mens Club, Jerry loved this community. He served on the Republican Town Committee, Friends of the Library Board and Ridgefield Graveyard Committee. Over the years Jerry was frequently seen helping his wife Maureen decorate the Main Street light poles, running errands during the annual Plant Sale or setting up at various local functions.

Those who were fortunate to know Jerry will always remember his intelligence, sharp wit, amazing story telling abilities and fantastic laugh. His love of opera, playing the ponies, bridge, Broadway and anything to do with history gave him the ability to strike up a conversation with nearly anyone.

At his request, there will be no public services. Memorial contributions may be made to Founders Hall, where he continued to learn, grow and socialize until this past spring.
